fatcatbuzz ::: Favorites I think if people started playing from their heart and didn't just play music in order to be rich and famous. I think this celebrity worship in the US has gone way to far and we tend to think that these are the people that have it the most together. I just think that most music today, though not all, just lacks the imagination and creativity that music did even 15 years ago. I'm old school at 29 I guess. 07-06-26 15:50:08 _____________________________________________________

oystermind ::: Favorites Don't make the mistake of renouncing the music of your own time-- it's far too easy an answer. Even in the 20's and 30's, the majority of pop was similar and tasteless. 07-06-27 17:13:41 _____________________________________________________
fatcatbuzz ::: Favorites I don't try and renounce all music coming out today. Some of the underground and college radio stuff can be good. I think most pop music today, especially in America, is pretty horrible. I actually like the stuff from the 20s and 30s. The blues stuff if not all the jazz and vocal stuff, although Benny Goodman, Duck Ellington, Billie Holiday, and of course Loius Armstrong are favorite of that era and they were popular music then. 07-06-28 16:26:06 _____________________________________________________
fatcatbuzz ::: Favorites Thanks. I get lost in the blues, too. Besides 60s rock, jazz, world, R&B and 90s alternative, blues is my favorite style. It's probably the style I've copied the most in my own playing. It makes it easier when I go to some open mic nights and jam. 07-06-28 16:29:03 _____________________________________________________

JosephNScott ::: Favorites "didn't just play music in order to be rich and famous." I think Booker and most of Booker's peers would have loved to be rich and famous. Few who played in about his style did get rich and famous (a more B.B.-King-like style was already on the rise by the late '30s), but Lemon Jefferson and John Lee Hooker both did. 07-07-26 13:28:26 _____________________________________________________
fatcatbuzz ::: Favorites You make a good point about being rich and famous. Even Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf played for some degree of fame and wealth. But, fame then had a different meaning than it does know. And I believe most players from that era played first for the enjoyment of music and wealth was secondary. I mean Muddy Water started doing odd jobs when he wasn't making money playing. Howlin' was a farmer during the day and played on the weekends until he recorded in his 40s. 07-07-26 17:22:24 _____________________________________________________ |
