Absolutely right. martial = war Martial Artist = practitioner of warfare Saddam Hussein is a high level martial artist. Do you look up to him? MMA, UFC, fighting for what? A belt? Fame? Money? What the fuck are you teaching your students?

Martial = warrior or military. arts= skill acquired by experience, study, or observation. "Tricking" hmm, never knew that was associated w/ M.A. They had to add another layer of competition to freestyle karate b/c of the lack of skill and depth in their forms and fighting. Then they state that "we" should fight against an MMA guy!! Some of my students from my trad. dojo are in the MMA. 1 fights for Shamrock..us Goju guys must be doing something right!

Still it doesn't change the fact that this "oldschoolkarate" is showing some flashy-non-martial art stuff and calling it martial arts.

Its funny how newcomers to the martial arts start thinking that they know something new and fantastic and exclusive because they've learnt ground-fighting and grappling, my answer is-who hasn't? It's no big deal!

What you're referring to is sport-karate. We have done ground fighting and jujitsu-like techniques before UFC or the Gracies were born. I think the grand-master of your art has greater understanding and respect for Okinawan karate than you do.

You are wrong. Okinawan Goju-ryu does not teach kicks above the hip level. And our katas include ground-fighting and grappling, and 90% of Goju-ryu techniques are not punching nor kicking.

So you're saying that it's something you'd want to do because it looks "cool"??
