RRaider ::: Favorites 2007-11-07 22:45:52 Who is a "lay" person? Are not all who are the Lord's Kings and Priests and do they not ALL have the Spirit of God to teach them all things? (1st John) Why do you substitute the reality of the work of God in men with some school you call a seminary? How many of these "seminaries" did Jesus or any of the disciples establish? It really boils down to trusting God to build His church or trusting the devices of man. __________________________________________________
infostationuk ::: Favorites 2007-10-16 14:40:54 Wow, what an awesome god, for he does not care about the thousands of men ,women and children ripped to shreds by war, and terrorism. Uhmm dont forget if you are good you will go to heaven oh and if you are bad you will go to hell for eternity of pain...but dont ever forget he loves you!. STOP BRAINWASHING OUR CHILDREN.. __________________________________________________
kyleknapp2 ::: Favorites 2007-09-05 13:13:58 I think you missed my point(s): a)ALL churches are fraught with "heresy", your own church is NOT an exception -- the heresy argument does not wash as a criticism of house church b)the fact that a group or individual holds views I consider erroneous ought not to exclude them from fellowship. The "heresies" I listed are, IMHO, seriously false teachings; nevertheless I respect and love and continue to fellowship with my brethren (both clergy and lay people) in the institutional church. __________________________________________________
bloodstaindknees ::: Favorites 2007-09-05 12:10:10 I would be more than willing to answer all of these thoughts, but you tube only gives me 500 characters to type, so if you are really want me to answer your questions you can contact me in another way. Most of your thought are unfounded and from the effects of some sort of misunderstanding or bitterness towards your church experience. __________________________________________________
bloodstaindknees ::: Favorites 2007-09-05 12:09:49 I am sorry you had negative experiences in the past, and I will you will continue communicating with me in a fashion which I have the techonological ability to give you my full thoughts on this topic. __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 17:55:09 Heresies rampant in the modern church: * "going to church" on Sunday fulfills Heb.10:25 * a "pastor", by virtue of position in the franchise, has the right to exert authority in the lives of "his" congregants * there's a biblical basis for making a sermon the centerpiece of Sunday gatherings * clergy/laity distinctions * sacraments administered by clergy * the concept of church "membership" * tithing * church as a "spectator" activity (see I Cor.14:26) (just to mention a few) __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 17:38:43 Add to the mix a few seasoned teachers interacting organically with these people (can we trust the Holy Spirit to guide them without superficial hierarchical assignments?), and you'll end up with something, I think, much closer to the church Christ intended. __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 17:38:27 Okay, let's look at it this way. Take a hundred new converts with no prior knowledge of the Bible, give them each a Bible and just set them free to learn under the direct tutelage of the Holy Spirit. Obviously you'll end up with differing interpretations and a few wacky perversions, but they could hardly do worse than the traditional church has done - they'll probably do MUCH better. __________________________________________________
bloodstaindknees ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 17:18:04 What check points do house churches have to keep them accountable for what they teach? If they don't have any do you agree this is a major problem? Are mature believers assigned to each group and are their other mature believers there with them to keep them accountable? __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 17:07:11 I agree. But Godly, wise counsel does not not necessarily come from formal education (and has very little correlation with denominational credentialing), but rather from "fathering" relationships with mature believers who guide and nurture but do not control, and who are willing to admit their limitations and even learn from brothers and sisters much younger in the faith. __________________________________________________
bloodstaindknees ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 16:41:29 I am not saying that just because you are seminary taught that heresy cannot creep in, but if you are not grounded in Biblical knowledge and surrounded by Godly, wise counsel you are less likely to go down that road. It would be easiest for Satan to sway a new, uneducated Christian by pretending that he is "God's voice" then someone who is grounded in Scripture. __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 16:37:11 The house church movement is not a panacea for the churches problems, but I think it's a step in the right direction towards Christ's people living and moving as members of his body rather than as pawns in a man-made system pretending to be his body. __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 16:35:50 I do acknowledge the value of home-based cell groups used by many churches, but I believe they have begun calling them "house churches" simply to capitalize on and dilute the impact of genuine antonymous home fellowships, while still maintaining authoritarian control (in direct violation of Christ's command in Matt.20:25-27 "the rulers of the Gentiles exercise authority over them... NOT SO with you!") __________________________________________________
kylekknapp ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 16:33:58 I certainly that pioneers make mistakes, but seminary-taught leadership is indisputably NOT a guarantee against heresy. (BTW the very word "heresy" in modern usage means little more than "a doctrine or philosophy I disagree with") I would assert that the very notion that an ordinary believer simply hearing from God may be overruled by a seminary-taught clergy is itself heretical. __________________________________________________
bloodstaindknees ::: Favorites 2007-09-04 10:12:46 "All the main heresies have come through proper church." Interesting, so you are you telling me that no heresies have ever come from the house church ever? That the small groups around Jersulam led by lay people that had heresies were proper church? Or maybe "reformed" Christian thinking of Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, Christian Science are not heresy, because they are pioneers? Pioneers and settlers do not always bring about positive change. __________________________________________________ |
