thank you kimmern123. i know this was probably the last chance i'd have to see a S.S. come in (at least on this coast)but travel time from the SF valley+getting off work @11am woulda made it a stretch. dangit! anyways, thank you for the reply.

It was just under an hour before the deorbit burn, about two hours before touchdown if I recall correctly.

Yes, the gear is down that late because the shuttle is gliding and you do not want to waste any speed with the gear down. In a normal airplane, you have power to compensate and shuttle has no power to adjust. It is important to remind they glide from 10,000 feet in a very steep descend...always fascinating since they do not have a second chance or a go-around...

I watched the landing in person and man was it awsome! Don't get to to see it land at Edwards much anymore. Only thing different seemed to be the 2 sonic booms. From where we were at, they seemed to be very faint. Either way, it was amazing to see and I hope that NASA lands more space shuttles here at Edwards before they end the space shuttle program in 2010.

It's maybe some technical troubles on Nasa TV , I think. The sound overlay and repeating lasted more than you could hear on this vid, so I cut that part. Thanks.
