Description:

Complete program at: http://fora.tv/fora/showthread.php?t=352 Liberal author and radio host Thom Hartmann argues that the authors of the U.S. Constitution envisioned a more egalitarian society than has traditionally been believed. ----- Thom Hartmann talks about "Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class and What We Can Do About It." Hartmann argues that the middle class is not the natural consequence of a free-market-based economy, but rather, the intended result of policies put into place to maximize the public good. He also argues the middle class is on its deathbed, evident by the number of people who put in a solid day's work and can no longer afford to buy a house, send their kids to college, or even get sick. Hartmann is also the author of "The Prophet's Way." Thom Hartmann, who started in radio in 1968, is also an internationally known speaker on culture and communications, an author, and an innovator in the fields of psychiatry, ecology, and democracy. Hartmann is the award-winning, best-selling author of fourteen books currently in print in over a dozen languages on four continents.

Scooticus- are you a Fresno area listener? Just wondering because of what you stated about the station changing formats to ESPN. Oh yeah, am also bit time listener to Hartmann- truly the smartest man on the air today. Thank goodness for internet streams!

Critical review of the founding fathers' circumstances as a method of discerning the motive behind the Constitution tells us nothing new. You had republicans, supported by the people who favored independence from England and limited government, and you had the federalists, who were supported by Tories and favored turning America into just another European country with an energetic government. There was no "white man's concensus" among the founders.

don't censor yourself! end the buerocracy for information. Please give yourself back my right to see information without having to sign up for it. Support the free flow of the truth, not the hiding of it! I don't need a password(microchip 666) to see the public record. search: microchip 666, make the connection. Don't keep hurdles in front of the records, please, I'm tired of jumping through hoops for it.

you are a liar. You are not contributing to the public record, your lies are being recorded, you are suggesting there will be no independent investigation of censorship on free speech after RON PAUL WINS THE PRESIDENCY.

One of the things Jefferson wanted put in the Constitution is a prohibition against economic monopolies. Jefferson lost that battle as the several states already had laws against that. Jefferson is rolling in his grave.

Wow...it's a good thing the country was eventually founded on liberty...not egalitarianism. Remember, at the time of the constitution debate the states were destroying liberty and the consitutional convention was a desperate attempt to salvage liberty.

It is a mistake to contrast liberty against equality, as the writer of the previous message has done. The purpose of the constitution, as stated in its preamble which sets the tone for the whole document, was "to promote the general welfare," i.e. the "commonwealth," not the interests of a few private shareholders against the interests of the general welfare.

Well said, classic14rider! Hartmann often speaks of the"commons"(AKA the commonwealth) on his radio program. This is part of the bedrock of Democracy, which cons(ervatives) don't want to talk about.
